The Atlanta School System is under the management and control of the Atlanta Board of Education. The Board is composed of nine members elected in nonpartisan elections. Three members are elected citywide and six are elected from districts, all for four-year terms. To qualify for election a candidate must:

Summary of Conduct of ElectionsThe regular General Election for electing public officials is held
on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November (Nov. 6, 2001).
All registered voters within the city limits of Atlanta are entitled
to vote in the election. The person receiving the majority of the votes
cast for each position will be elected. The elected candidate will take
office the first Monday of January immediately following the election
and shall serve for four years until the office expires on December
31, 2005.
