In addition to influencing a $527 million budget and determining how property tax dollars are invested in education, school board members establish general policies in keeping with the needs of the community and the requirements of state law, and perform all specific duties imposed by statute; specifically, they:

- Elect school personnel upon the recommendation of the Superintendent.

- Establish salary schedules upon the recommendation of the superintendent.
|
- Establish policies affecting the school program.
|
- Establish school attendance areas upon the recommendation of the Superintendent.
|
- Consider and act on appeals from administrative decisions.
|
- Consider and adopt an annual budget upon the recommendation of the Superintendent.
|
- Consider and act on recommendations from the Superintendent in regard to the capital needs of the school system.
|
- Consider and act on the recommendations from the Superintendent concerning the needs of the school system and assist in interpreting these needs to the community.
|
- Exert leadership and direction in reaching the highest educational goals.
|
- Perform other duties as provided by the General Statues of Georgia.
